Strange things happening with this program
Hi All,
Okay...I'll fully admit that I'm new to this, and don't know exactly what I'm doing with this program...but the problem is that I don't know 'why' anything is happening. It just seems random. So I was hoping someone could shed some light on it so that I'm not totally in the dark. So I've been trying to make a town using the 1930s city map, and I want it to have a coastline. So I make the water background using the appropriate tool, and then put a landmass over it. Then, sometimes, while I'm working on something else, the color filled on the landmass will disappear, so the water shows through, and I can't get it back without starting from scratch.
Then, when I try to add layer effects to blur the water template as in the pdf tutorial, the water just disappears entirely, and I can't get it back without remaking the whole map. In addition, despite the style having rivers, the 'default river' tool doesn't work, and in addition, when I use the 'All map drawing tools' button to select a river anyway, it is always massive by default (e.g. the wide river is a black line about 3" wide).
As I mentioned, this all just seems...random, and I'm sure it can't be. Have I installed the program incorrectly?
Thank you for any input you can provide,
Arc

I have tried redrawing the map with that button, but that doesn't do anything. Also, the objects appear to be on the correct sheets - at least until they disappear.
Thanks,

Should be
Sea
Land
lake
symbols
If they aren't, the lake, as an example, will disappear.
Sea is drawn first, then land, then lake; using the example list in my post.
I scrapped that map and tried a fresh one using a different template, the normal CC3 one. That one seems to work just fine, don't know why the 1930s map was doing strange things, but I'll come back to it at some point.
