Tips on saving as a JPEG?

Hey, folks. I can easily use the Save As feature to save a map as a JPEG if the final image is small--800 x 600. But I have a continent-sized map that I would like to send to the printer as a 24" x 36" poster. Whenever I attempt to Save As with the settings under Options set really high, I receive an error message (and sometimes the program even has to shut down--yikes!).

What are some tips, guidelines, pointers for saving as a really big JPEG or PNG?

Thanks!

In the end it always comes down to pixel size. What dimensions are you using? I can normally export just fine as 6400x6400 for example, which should be fine for a print at that size. It might take a while to export, so be patient.
  • Okay, I found where the problem is happening.

I saved the image as a JPEG at 6400 x 6400, as you suggested, and it worked perfectly. I then turned on sheet effects. This time when I tried to save as a JPEG at those dimensions, I received a "program not responding" message, and I had to close CC and reopen.

I tried it a second time. After clicking "save," I see in the upper right: "Rendering image. Pass 1/13. Please wait . . ."

But then nothing ever happens. When I click anywhere on the screen, the program freezes up, and I get the "not responding" message again.

What kind of map is it? Can you post it here, or sent it to me at ralf@profantasy.com, so I can take a look?
  • Sure. I'll email it to you now. Thanks for the help!
