Is there a way to use trace for floors of odd-shaped rooms?

Okay, so when it comes to drawing landmasses there is an option to use trace so things line up on the coast lines and the like with the default terrain tool. Is there a similar feature that can be applied for floors? I ask because I need to make floors for a building that has straight and curved walls. The outline of the rooms for the project in question can be found here: http://forum.profantasy.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=3651&page=1#Comment_29948

I ask because for some reason, I'm unable to use that tool when drawing a DD3 map. I'm assuming that the template does not allow for that tool to be used.

Click on the Add Room tool upper right, after clicking on CD3 icon.

Select the bent rectangle icon. That allows you to draw odd-shaped rooms. It is similar to the polygon tool for overland maps.

You can select different foregrounds, like hatching, bricks, etc.

Tracing is certainly possible in DD3, but note that tracing is tool-dependent, and not map-dependent, and that DD3's room-drawing tools does not support tracing. Try using the floor tools instead of the room tools (Either from the button, or by going into the all drawing tools box), as they support tracing, then create the walls by making a copy of the floor, placing it on the correct sheet, set a proper width, and a fill style.

Remember that when tracing the rooms in that structure, you will need to trace each wall individually, because trace traces along one single entity at a time, it doesn't do a combined outline. (But there is nothing wrong with doing multiple traces during the drawing of one polygon however)
  • How am I supposed to do the floors first when the building has to have the shape that can be seen in the image here?

I have a number of odd-shaped rooms in one dungeon on my Crestar site. You could use different layers or sheets.

One sheet for the entire structure, then add the walls on another sheet.

I thought I had posted these before, but evidently not.

    another one.

I did these using the room tool for polygon rooms.

And one that had a cave with dug out rooms and passageways attached.

Doesn't really matter what you do first/last really, I was just pointing to the floor tools because they actually allow tracing. Of course you need to generate the building layout at the very start, but I do assume that the white lines here are only placeholders for tracing, not the finished product. So, I would start by generating this layout, then using the floor tools to trace the inside of each room (or if you are planning to have the same floor throughout the building, simply use the floor tool to trace the very outline of the building, then finally either convert the white lines to proper walls by giving them the appropriate width and fill, or by using the floor polygon as a base for the walls, either will work)

    @JimP:
I don't think you understand Richard's problem here. If you look at the image he posted, you will see that he needs the trace functionality because the walls are ARCs, something the dungeon designer room tool cannot do.

Also, if you use non-floor-drawing-tool polys to make your floors, rather than an actual floor tool, keep in mind that you can use CC3 magic to give the poly the same properties (fill, line, etc.) that you would have gotten if you'd used a particular drawing tool.

If you're unfamiliar with the Change like draw tool function, this post explains how to use it to make a polygon look as if it had been drawn by a specific drawing tool!

    Cheers,

When I have to mix arcs and lines to create a shape, I use multipoly. See below.
  • Works the same if you want to apply the same fill style in every part:

The polygon room tool is free form, it can handle arcs.

I would draw the entire floor as one entity, and then draw the walls on another sheet.

A quickly drawn, I'm not great at drawing, but here it is. I used polygon room, and the different line drawing tools on the right side of CC3.
