Need help with CC2

Re-installed my copy of CC2 (6.12) after years away. I need a map for a novel.

I cannot get the series * update to work, and while everything on the 6.12 seems to work, when I hit New, the template list appears, but will not respond to mouse clicks. If I hit enter, the template window closes.

What is the problem? I've tried it on two computers.

    What OS are using?

CC2 won't work on newer OS system. The CC2 I have I had to install into the Windows XP programs in XP Virtual Mode on my Windows 7 system as CC2 won't work no matter what comparability setting you have it set for in Windows 7. I have to go into the XP virtual mode to use it.

Can you download XP virtual mode for your OS? It is a free download from Microsoft if your OS supports it.

No, I have Windows 7 Home, which is not compatible.

So far, everything on CC2 works except for the template feature. If I could fix that, or get copies of the templates (I can open and modifiy files) it would work fine.
  • OK, if I go to the file of templates without opening CC2 and manually click on the desired template, it opens CC2 to that template. Clumsy, but it will suffice for now.

    You can use this workaround:
    - type TEMPLATE on the command line and hit return.
    - navigate to the template you want to use and open it.
    - Right-click the new map button and choose "New from current template".

This creates a fresh map based on the chosen template.

Of course the problem can be completely avoided by upgrading to CC3. :)

That didn't work. It brought up an empty file.

Yeah, I could update, but despite the improvised method I did create a map sufficient to my needs. I haven't used CC2 in years, probably ten years. The odds are I won't use it again for quite a while. Really doesn't seem necessary to buy an upgrade, given that level of use.

CC2 works fine on my Vista Home Premium 32-bit computer. Try manually loading the symbol sets using the Folder button just under the 'Options..' window and then browse to the folder with the symbols you want to use.

The symbol sets work fine, it was the templates I was having trouble with. But I've got a workable solution in place. I doubt I need to make more than four or five maps in the next eighteen months, so it will suffice.
