Looking for assistance on Symbols and Sheets.
Hi, I purchased CC3 roughly 12 hours ago and it's pretty sweet, but I'm struggling with a few oddities here.
Firstly, I don't quite get the sheets functionality. I was expecting something more like photoshop layers, but it clearly isn't that and I don't quite get it. This is problematic because whenever I misplace a symbol on the map, I can't delete it without deleting the background of the map behind it. How can I go about making a map in CC3 that doesn't have this issue?
Secondly, whenever I zoom in or out, the symbols I have placed on the map disappear. I have no idea why this is happening, can anyone shed some light?
Thirdly, is there any way to import GIS data into a map? As someone studying Urban Planning I'd thoroughly enjoy producing maps with this software for public consultation. :P
This really is an amazing little program, hoping to get a lot of use out of it.

- Normally, you'll always want to select entities (like symbols or polygons) by clicking on their edge, not by dragging a selection rectangle around them. using the latter approach almost always leads you to select more than you want
- If selection is really tricky, you can also hide some or all of the sheets with the entities you do not want to delete. This is done from the sheets and effects dialog
- There are multiple selection modifiers available, like selection by color, line style, etc. See the editing chapter in the manual for details
- CC3 also have layers. These are NOT like photoshop layers, but rather thematic/functional grouping. All entities belong to both one sheet and one layer (often by the same name, but can be very different as well). Layers have the advantage that they can be locked, and everything on a locked layer is not selectable.
If the symbols disappear when you zoom out/in, this is usually because of a sheet order issue. To speed up drawing, when you place a symbol, it is always placed on top of everything, but when you zoom, the map is being redrawn in the correct sheet order. Check your sheet order, and make sure the order is correct. Remember that the program draws the sheet at the top of the list first, then the next sheet in the list on top of that, and so on, so entities from sheets at the bottom of the list will end up over items on sheets at the top of the list. You can always check which sheet an entity is on by using the LIST command (from the Info menu)
As for GIS data, not as far as I know. You'll probably need to make an external program that converts the data to an appropriate CC3 macro, or write a CC3 add-on to do so.
This is just a temporary effect, the background isn't actually deleted as the 'background' in CC3 is a map entity like the other symbols, line, polygons, etc, rather than a raster fill like it would be in photoshop.
Refreshing the CC3 screen (circular arrow button near the top right of the screen) will remove the white silhouette, and the background will appear again.
