For any fans of TSR's Planescape, I've had a crazy idea of using CC to map outer plane realms. I want to prepare a map of Mechanus, which is a dimension made up of meshed gears with land on them. Any recommendations on how to draw gears using CC?

Draw a complex figure and them copy/paste. A Bevel effect and a texturize (or a nice bitmap fill) is all you need I think. Have you tryed to search for "gears" on Dunjini?
