Cities and shadows

I'm trying to make a basic village. Just a dirt road and a handful of buildings. My problem comes when I try and apply shadows to the buildings. The reason being that all the builds get added to the symbols layer and I can't seem to figure out how to change that.

Because I don't want all the symbols I've added to have the same effects at the buildings.

Move them to separate sheets as the effects can be applied to just one sheet.

On the left side of CC3 is a 'Change Properties' button. Right click it and you get a menu: move to another sheet, change color, move to another layer, change fill type, etc.

Create a new sheet for the symbols you want to have effects on. Move the symbols to that sheet.

so the symbols don't disappear behind something it should be

symbolseffects
symbols

So when you create symbolseffects, just move it up to be one above Symbols.

Sheets are drawn starting first with the top one in the list.
