Files losing CC Icon :(

OK, so all my CC files now longer have the CC icons associated with them :(

Anyone know how to 'get them back?'

Varies slightly between the different Windows versions, but here is the Win2K way, should be pretty similar in XP at least. (Don't know about Vista)
    • Go to "Folder Options" (Either from the control panel or from the tools menu in any windows explorer window
    • Go to the "File Types" tab.
    • Find the "FCW" extension in the list
    • Select it, then click "Advanced"
    • First, make sure CC3 is set to open the file:
      • There should be an "open" action in the list. Select it, click "edit", then verify that it opens CC3 (Application should be something like "c:\Program Files\Profantasy\CC3\fcw32.exe %1". If it doesn't point to cc3, use the browse button to make it to so, then append the %1 to the end as shown in my example (%1 refers to the name of whatever file you double clicked on)
      • If there isn't an "open" item in the list at all, just make one called "open", and set the path as above
    • Then click the Change Icon button. Windows should list the icons from fcw32.exe by default (As long as the step above is correct). If it doesn't, just hit the browse button, find CC3 (fcw32.exe), and open it. Then select the appropriate icon, and hit ok as many times as required.

EDIT: Err, it worked. When I tried it it again!

Resurrecting this thread out of necessity...

I just moved my profantasy folder up one level (to C:Profantasy, from C:Program Files x86/Profantasy) and now my CC3 maps (extension .fcw) are no longer the green bushy icon.

I tried to use the above recipe to fix the problem, using fcw32.exe, but now my icons are smaller versions of FastCad icons. I can see that the file association is now set to FastCad (not CC3).

I'm using windows 7 and trying to make the changes from "Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Associations"

Note: The options listed in the above post don't seem to directly apply to what I see in my windows 7 control panel, so I tried to wing it as best I could, and failed. Particularly, I don't understand the string placeholder business (%1) or the "open" item stuff.

Does anyone have any thoughts? BTW, my maps DO properly open up. its just that the icon aren't green. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, I know :)

    Thanks for your time!

I think MS removed the proper UI for this, in an attempt to simplify things (and ending up making things more difficult for the more advanced users). There are third-party programs available to "restore" the UI for file association configuration, otherwise you have to manually change the registry (not recommended unless you know what you are doing).

Sorry that my above post wasn't clear, but I did manage to fix things. My edit at the beginning of the post was after I figured it out. I left the problem statement there in case someone in the future has a similiar situation.
