red crosses - finding location

When I open several of my old maps which were transfered from my old PC to my new PC, several symbols come up with a red X. I'm sure I just missed transfering some of my symbols from my old PC. My question is, how do I tell where the program is looking for the symbol? The Symbol Manager shows the name of the symbol but I don't see anything that shows the path of where it is looking for that name.

Thanks!

You can find out the bitmap location the following way:
    - Open Symbol > Symbol Manager
    - Select the symbol with the red X and Edit it
    - Use Info > List on the bitmap.
    - the info box that pops up will show the path to the missing bitmap

    Hope that helps.
  • Thanks! I'll give that a try tonight.
  • Well, I created the directory it was looking for and found the symbols and put them in the directory, but I still get red X's
Some further explanation, these are mostly the CSUAC symbols, which I have had for years. I ran the install programs but they seem to have been set up with a different directory structure than before, which I've found a couple references to.
One example is my missing symbol is Fireplace 2-rke_aa. Clicking List in the Symbol Manager gives "FileName: #Symbols\CSUAC\Art Files\CSUAC 6 Furniture Fantasy\Fireplace-rke-aa_HI.PNG"
This now is located in C:\ProFantasy\CC3\Symbols\CSUAC\Art Files\Stoves and Fireplaces
I created a "CSUAC 6 Furniture Fantasy" subfolder under "Art Files" and copied over "Fireplace-rke-aa_HI.PNG" but even after closing out CC3 and restarting, I still just get the red X.

I also tried opening "Stoves and Fireplaces.FSC" through the Symbol catalog and get nothing but red X's there. This happens even in a brand new map.

I've seen a few forum entries about CSUAC but they mostly seem to be for people that are looking for them and don't have the cataloges available.

Am I missing a step somewhere?

Any suggestions or pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.
  • Okay, solved part of the problem with not being able to get the new symbols. Deleted the CSUAC directory completely and reinstalled. Previously I missed the fact that the default install path was C:\Program Files\ProFantasy and my base install is C:\ProFantasy.
  • The reinstall seemed to bring back all my missing symbols except for one that I used for some floors. However, it only shows as a set of red X's on the map, it doesn't show in Symbol Manager, even after clicking on "Show fill style symbols"

Any suggestion on how I can find out what that one was named?

    Thanks again
  • Found it! Was missing an old fix for DD3, a directory called "C:\ProFantasy\CC3\Bitmaps\Tiles\Dungeon\Linda" which had a bunch of floor styles.

You do need all the four resolution files in the directory (ending in VH, HI, LO and VL), otherwise CC3 will probably try to display a resolution that it cannot find, resulting in the red X.

  • I have the same problem, but my question is how can I tell a new path to an symbol that is already on a map?
