Can't install DD3

I have CC3 installed (obviously) in C:\Profantasy\CC3 as recommended elsewhere. When I install DD3, it asks for .NET framework to be downloaded - the download linnk takes one to a page to download .NET v2. But I've already got .NET v4 on my system! Windows 7 x64. I can't install DD3 because I don't want to download an earlier version of .NET. In fact, I don't want or need to download any version of .NET!

Why can't these installers actually detect what is already on the system, eh?

Ok is there a work around for this, puleeze? :)

Please download the current Dungeon Designer 3 install from your order page or the registration page. The .Net requirement was removed quite a while ago.
  • OK I did that and, yes, there was no requirement for .NET stage.

However, there is no means of specifying where it should be installed - my CC3 folder being C:\Profantasy\CC3.

When I get to the list of things being installed, there is DD3 but it has a red X next to it - if I change the red X to install on local drive, the disk space at bottom shows I have -1 bytes available for the installation, and it falls over with Error 2343 when trying to install into \mia84BA.tmp\data. If I continue I get another Error -11: CC3 update 10 unable to install new files. And then the installation ends.

And yes I am running it as Administrator

There is no configurable installation path, because DD3 must be installed into your CC3 directory. The fact that DD3 showed up with a red X in the installer indicated that it couldn't find your CC3 installation, which again points to a problem with that installation.

    1) Does your CC3 install work as it should? When you start an overland map, can you switch symbol catalogs by clicking the symbol catalog buttons right above the drawing window? Does the symbol catalog window appear on the left side, and not the right. If you had to answer no to any of those question, there is something wrong with your install, so you should start by reinstalling CC3.

    2) Try to install CC3 Update 10 (Downloadable from your registration page) before running the DD3 installer.

My cc3 folder is also C:\Profantasy\cc3 so the install should work. I would go with Monsen's suggestions.
  • Yup all done and working, thanks guys :)

  • Hello, I am having similar problems with City Designer Pro for CC3.

I got a new computer running Windows 7 x64 and I'm trying to set everything up on the new computer. First time around (using my old CC3 disk), that program created and installed on c:Program Files (x86)/ProFantasy/CC. But nothing else would install, or even open up. So I moved it to c:/ProFantasy/CC after reading the above, was then able to run the CC3Update10, and then DD3 installed, as well as CA2007. So thankful for the above comments!

However, I cannot get cd-cc3-compatibility to install, even though I downloaded it from my registration page, instead of using my disk. I did try to download the .NET driver, and my computer rejects 1.1 and 2.0. It did accept 4.0, but the cd-cc3-compability program still wants 1.1 Service Pack 1.

I am having the same problem with ss1-cc3-compability and ss2-cc3-compatibility, both of which would not load from my disks, so I downloaded them again, and they are still making these unreasonable demands of me.

If someone has a solution to these problems, I would appreciate it.

    Regards,
    Elle

  • No matter what I do, I can install CC3, I can install CD3, but when it comes to DD3, I either get the .Net issue OR Error Code 3 from the downloaded file because it tries to install CC3 Patch 10, which isn't needed. So I am just going to wait to see if ProFantasy does another series of software to purchase, might as well waste money on that then be disappointed at the lack of support about the current line of software. I did everything that Ive read on the forums, so I give up.

Hi there, sorry to hear that you're running into trouble with your DD3 install. But have you contacted us via tech support? I'll be happy to help out, if I know a few more details of your installation and your OS. I don't have think I've seen a tech support request from you.

Just some info. Any time you install something besides CC3 (such as DD3), you should run the latest update again (CC3 Patch 10) because it does in fact have updates for other packages (I read this in the one of the product PDF's, maybe Tome of Ultimate Mapping.)

  • Okay, I have CC3 version 3.42, Im running 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate. Now here is the issue I have when installing DD3 - if I do it by the CD, it tells me to download MS .Net Framework v1.1 with SP 1. And I have read on here that u no longer need the .Net to run DD3, so I download the latest setup file for DD3. When going to install it from the setup file, I first get a File Corrupt error, the a window where the files where installed, close that out and then it tells me that it cant install Patch 9, and a Code 3 error.
  • As I said, installing DD3 from the setup file, it will install all the files for it, then go thru and try to patch. Then a window pops up saying the following - Some installation files are corrupt. Please download a fresh copy and retry the installation. So I close that box, and then it gives me a WinRar box where the extraction is almost complete with the last thing highlighted in black is Extracting Templates. Clicking Close on that window then brings up the Error window that says the following - CC3 update 10 was unable to install the new files. The error code is: 3 . That is what Im dealing with.
  • Oh and running the CC3 Patch 10 update AFTER trying to install DD3 gets me the exact same results, but only it says CC3 update 9 instead of 10, and still the same error code of 3.

Most important thing on Windows 7,8 or Vista when you're running into trouble with the install: Right-click the setup file and choose "Run as Administrator" to execute it.
