Wonderful! I get to see too few cities in the John Speed style. Good job working with the walls, they are indeed a bit tricky. Creating workable symbols for the large number of angles was quite a challenge at the time.
Here is my attempt at a John Speed village. I'm using this style, just this one so far, as 'ancient towns and villages'. With the default city symbols as recent locales.
Nice work, Jim. The only thing that's a bit jarring is that some houses are rotated out of their "normal" alignment. For this style, you need to switch the next symbol in the "rotation sequence", not rotate the symbol itself. Also, switching on your sheet effects would make it look nicer.
On the original maps, the perspective isn't always perfect on the buildings. So I've always felt free to rotate occasional symbols a little bit (a few degrees) if I needed to. In some cases it can actually make the map look closer to the style, with fewer repeated symbols. Just make sure you're only rotating a few degrees -- too much, and it really looks off. Steve
