FT3 update 3.12 problems

I have a problem with the most recent update to FT3. After I download and run the patch, FT3 comes up just fine. I click on Help>About and the version number is 3.12.
I then exit out of the program and reload it from the desktop icon. I click on Help>About, and the version number is back to 3.04.
I uninstal the patch, and then reinstall it. The same thing happens. What now?

Sounds like maybe an UAC issue. Try installing the patch by right-clicking on the installer, and select "Run as admin".

Also, make sure you don't somehow have two installations on your system and the desktop icon points to the wrong location.

Another possibility is that if you're not using the installer to do the update (just copying files into the installation directory), then the installer may be silently repairing your installation when you use the desktop icon. In this case "repair" would be replacing the executable that the installer doesn't recognize with the one that it used at original install time. If you make a shortcut directly to the exe in the install directory then you may be able to bypass this issue.

OK. Let's see what "Run as Admin" does for me.

Hmm..not working. I am going to have to set this aside until I have time to do a total reinstal on FT 3.

Put it into c:\FT

Not C:\Program Files\FT due to Vista and Win 7 issues with installs into C:\Program Files folder.

Thanks for the advice. I just realized that I bought FT pro when Cosmographer 2 came out. I thought it was an update, but apparently it is a separate program. So, it turns I DID have two installations of FT on my computer. Anyway, the "rip everything out by the roots" method worked. Everything runs so much faster now.

Yeah, FT is a standalone, not an add-on.
