1st Map step by step

Hello,

this is my first try to create the world of my noval. Today I just tried to create the land, that it will look in the same way as I draw it by hand. It nearly worked and I am a little bit proud of me. :o)

Hey JimP. What exactly do you mean? The map or the novel? ;o)

At the moment I am working on a 2nd try, but now I have a problem. This time, I like the land I created much more, but the map is too small. I have only space for the northern part of my continents. Further more I started to far at the right side. Is there a possibility to move the whole landmass to the left side and to copy it into a new map? I also tried to open two windows, one with my actual map and one with a bigger map, but it does not work. :o(

Okay... the real problem is another. I checked the distance from one coast to another and it shows me more than 5000 miles. That is much too large. This distance should only be ca. 248 miles. Can I reduce the size of landmass? O.o
  • My 2nd try. As I told, it is much too large but I like it and I will use it for further training.

You can rescale the whole map by 248/5000 (you can enter formulas in the command line for such values). I think the second layout looks a lot better than the first - for the first gave the impression that the landmass was artificially limited by the border (especially on the left side).

Still, you might want to take a look at some real world outline for continents - you layout is not so dissimilar to Europe/North Africa/Western Asia, so zoom into that on an Earth map to give you a feel how a geographical area might look. Some of your outlines do look a bit blocky and regular on a macro scale.

But overall very good work for the first few steps. Keep 'em coming!
