Resetting number labels

I've been trying to number items on my city map using the "Number Label" tool, but after placing some numbers and then deleting them I can't see anyway to reset the numbers back to 1 (or to any other number).

Any hints?

When you click on the number labels button, before placing your first number, look at the command line. It asks you for the starting number, so instead of accepting the default, just type any number you want to start at, like 1 [enter].
