Symbols confusion

Okay! I just purchased and installed Annual 2007, started a new map (parchment) and imported one of the symbol sets.

Now when I click the green button under 'Options...' it alternates between the old symbols that WILL work, and the cool new symbols that do nothing after I left click on them.

So what's going on, and how can I use these new symbols? Thanks in advance.

To get to the Annual symbols, I find I have to browse to them. I think there is a way to get the Symbol Style Toggle to show them, but I had root canal work today and don't remember the method.
