Symbol Style Toggle Question - How to make a new symbol catalog

I just recently received the new March 2011 annual. However, I want to mix symbols from CC3 and Symbol Set 1 with this particular annual. How do I take John Roberts style into the "Symbol Style Toggle"? How could his annual be apart of my cycle when I switch symbols? I hope my question make sense...

  • Well, the way I use the Annual symbols is to select the symbols in the folder where they are.

The other way is to place all the map symbols you want to use, and then save them as a symbol set. I have one for villages, one for older type villages, and one for overland. While there might be a way for the toggle to load them, I just load the symbol set I created for one I listed and use that to make my maps.
  • Jim, how do you import all of the symbols? I essentially want all symbols from the John Robert's style. Could you explain the sequence in which you have done it? When I import pngs, i always Symbols > Import Pngs. Any other way to do it?

Essentially, the only way I see where I can put all of the symbols is to make a new catalog? Any ideas? Actually I imported them and they import all of the symbols from the mountain folder for an example. However, if you start a new file and you make a Jonathan Roberts style all of his symbols work like they are suppose to. At random when you place the mountain symbol. Essentially, is there away to have that exact same mechanic and transfer it over to my world map file that uses CC3 and Symbol Set 1? Also, when I import them in and I want to change to structures to mountains I have to cycle through the folders to get a new type of symbol. Also, when I import them in, the mountains won't correspond to the mountain layer and would go behind all of my symbols. I would love to do that. I've been trying to figure that out for the last 2 hours with no luck. I really hope there is away. His new catalog would absolutely enhance my world map!

I guess what I am asking is... How do I make Jonathan Roberts annual a catalog that I could use in my map as if it would work the same if I were to make a new file with his style with all of the random mechanic when I play the symbols into my coexisting map; when I click on toggle catalog?

    1. Load up a relevant map (or create a new one) [The setting is not map-bound, but we do this to be sure the appropriate master filter is set up]
    2. Find the current master filter loaded with the map. This can be found from the OnOpenMacro in the Map Notes. Look for the line SYMICONFLOAD line. The word right after SYMICONFLOAD is the current master filter.
    3. Right Click on symbol Style toggle, select "Master Filter Settings"
    4. Increase the number of filters to use by one, then enter CA51 in the new slot that opened up.
    5. Click 'Save' and enter the master filter name from item 2. above
    6. Now the symbol style toggle will include the Jon Roberts in the cycle. (Note, this only adds it to the left-click cycle, not the right-click list on the button))

(If you only wanted to do this temporarily, you could skip the save step (5.))
  • Monsen, that was way easier then I thought! Thank you very much! I'll post the map edited with the symbols!
  • I make a symbol set by placing symbols into one map. Not drawing a location, just place them.

I then go into the Symbol Manager and save those symbols as a set.

Load the set when I want to make a map using those symbols.
