Map Canvas is Blank

Not sure what I did after pressing the zoom extents button my map canvas is now blank - white, cannot draw anything or place any symbols.

The cursor location shows NAN,NAN and any of the Info commands return NAN. when I view the map in the open dialog it displays the preview just fine.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like the zoom level got corrupted. Do you have any text in your map? (Even if you haven't added any, there may be hidden text there). If so, the easy solution is to use View -> Zooms -> To all text. Then just double click on any item in the result box. After doing this, you should be able to use Zoom Extents to get a proper view of your map again.

  • I tried this, and it didn't work for me unfortunately. I always have to just close the program, lose my unsaved work, and reopen the map.

I save to multiple filenames as I make changes.

filename01_001, make changes, filename01_002, etc. until I complete what I map trying to do. This makes it easier to back up to an earlier version. Undo doesn't always go back far enough for me, so I came up with this method.

When this happens, before I close CC3 under a hail of fiery invective, I usually try to select something by layer or type or other means that doesn't require me to manually select it. More often than not, the item is selected and, either the map returns to view or I perform the action and the map returns to view — in which case I undo the action.

    Cheers,

I just thought of something else.

You might have white text or a white symbol way off on one side.

The zoom extents, to show everything like it wants to, shrinks the map.

Hide one layer. Then zoom extents again. Keep doing this until your map shows up. Save to a different filename.

Then using erase, delete everything outside the map.

Zoom extents with all layers showing.

You should now have your map back.
