Quesion about DD3 and a problem with CD3?

Hey all,

I have a question concerning DD3, I did a search in the forum and over at cartographersguild but couldn't find anything. So here it is, I am currently working on a dungeon and I have a room (like an eating hall) that has a recessed floor down the middle, I was wondering if there is anything I can do with effects to create the illusion of a recessed floor.

Now my problem. In CD3 I am working on a small farming village and I am using the floorplan tool to link a tavern with a floorplan. I can create the link just fine and it will open the floor plan up no problem as well. The problem is the template that the floorplan uses is the same as the one from the village map. Meaning that the background is 1000'x800' so the actual floorplan shows up on the map as a little thumbnail in the corner. I can zoom in on it to work but I would rather it use the DD3 template that I told it to use in the floorplan setup.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Steve

This sounds weird. Is it actually a City Designer template you're seeing in the floorplan, or a DD3 template at a too large size? You can check by opening the drawing properties - what's the drawing style shown?

If the size of the template is just too large, the reason might be that you accidentally selected something beside the house when creating the floorplan. Make sure only the building for the floorplan is selected.
  • Thanks, Ralf I will take a look and let you know.
  • Ok i just looked at the drawing and it says it is a CD3 Floorplan DD3. I also tried to create it again and I made sure only to select the building I want to create the floorplan for. It is still showing up on a 1000'x800' background. I've included an copy of the fcw

Floorplan looks ok for me. It is only that the default zoom seems a bit off for some reason. Once you do a zoom extent and save the map, it should show properly in the future. As you can see, the map border is placed correctly around the floorplan, appropriately close to it.
(Remember that any CC3 map is basically unlimited in size. You can zoom any map out like this, and draw outside the map border if you feel like it. The selected size only determines the size of the map border, not the possible drawing area [Although all the drawing tools only draws within the map border by default])

There seems to be a glitch in the floorplan command that creates this "zoomed out " look when the floorplan is created. As Monsen says, just do a "Zoom Extents" and save the map to correct that.
  • Thanks guys, I was playing around with it yesterday and discovered that myself. What happend is that I opened up a seperate DD3 drawing using the dimensions of the floorplan I wanted to create and it showed up the same (per attachment). So that rules out it being the CD3 floorplan tool. Then I did as you suggested so I can start working on it (I have a game this weekend and I needed some of these maps) I zoomed in on the floorplan, worked a little bit then hit the zoom extents and it centered itself on the screen in a size I can work with. So as far as I'm concerned it is fixed, I can deal with the workaround no problem.

THanks for all of your help.
