SMAC Files,, Please Help

Hello good people. I just downloaded a lot of the SMAC files, AWESOME JOB BTW, and I don't know where to go from there to get these great symbols into my CC3/DD3 program. Being computer illiterate,
I'm probably making this harder then it is but I don't want to screw anything up.

I know I have to make a SMAC symbol file, which I know is under the symbols selection, but I don't know which choice to pick from the drop down menu

After I make this SMAC file, how do I get the zipped, I think thats the word, symbols off my HD and into these folders?

Simple directions would be great, remember that I'm not all that computer savy, and any help would be very much appreciated

    1. Use windows explorer to navigate into your CC3 Symbols folder (By default, this is c:\Program Files\ProFantasy\CC3\Symbols), then male a folder here called SMAC.
    2. Now, unzip the downloaded files into this folder. Exactly how to do this depends on if you are using the built in unzip program in windows, or you have installed another one. In most cases however, it is just right-clicking on the downloaded zip file, and select something like "unizp to" or "extract to". Most software will then give you a dialog asking where to unzip the files. These should be unzipped to the SMAC folder you just made in the previous step
    3. Repeat 2 for each zipped file with symbols you downloaded

Now, you can use the symbols inside CC3 by clicking on the "Open symbol catalog" button right above the symbol catalog window itself. This will open a dialog where you can browse to the symbol catalog. Browse to the SMAC folder you made previously, and from there, into the desired subfolder. From hereselect the desired symbol catalog file, then click ok, and the SMAC catalog should be shown in your symbol catalog window.
For easier access to the symbol catalogs, you can also add buttons to the menu for these. Look here for instructions

Thanks for the answers but I'm still having problems. I navigated to Symbols, following, your instructions, but my system is not giving me an option to create a folder. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance for any help given
  • to create a folder: Usually I just right-click on the file list, and select "New..." from the pop-up menu, then select "Folder". Generally there is also a menu option ("File>New>Folder" on my Win7 machine).

If you're not getting that option, maybe there is a permission problem?

    Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with the SMAC fill imports. I downloaded all the files and put them in the right directory but when I goto Tools>Import and then try and lay a floor I cannot find the imported fill styles there and they are not listed under the advanced tab. So my question is where are the fills that were imported? and how do I access them?

    @dm44:
Please do not double post. It won't help you get an answer faster, and it just wastes everyone's time.
  • Ok I've just run into a problem myself. I've installed the SMAC files in C:\CC3\Symbols\SMAC, and the .FSC files are inside each folder alongside another folder that contains the actual image files. If I open the FSC catalog file, I get a pile of X images. If I open one of the image files, I get the catalog.

The png files should be in their respective art folder under the SMAC folder.
The .fsc files should be in the SMAC folder.

    So:
    CC3
    Symbols
    SMAC
      Art Files >> .png files
      .fsc files

That's how they're organized in my setup, yes. But they're not working. Or should the folder explicitly be called "Art Files"? I did not change anything about the folder hierarchies when I copied the SMAC stuff in.

You say that your .fsc files are inside "each folder", which then contains the Art files folder. This is incorrect. All the .fsc files should reside on the root of the SMAC directory, and this is also where the "Art Files" folders should be located. Sounds like you have made the mistake of letting your unzip software create an extra directory name based on the name of the zip archive, instead of extracting them directly into the target directory (The Symbols\SMAC directory). This is a common mistake, as most unzip software offers this option as it prevents people from accidentally mixing the contents of many archives in one location, but it is a bad option when people wish to provide files with a pre-setup directory structure.

And no, the Art Files directories shouldn't be named "Art Files", as all these directories are on the same level, so they have a package-spesific name, like "Art Altars", "Art Arches" and so on.
  • I see what you mean, thanks. I initially unzipped them on my Mac side, where (for some reason) there is no folder merge option at all.
