Symbols copied and pasted from other maps
Thanks to anyone who can take a minute to answer three quick questions:
1. I have Annual 2007. How can I find the symbols in the example maps for use on my own maps?
2. Because I couldn't find them anywhere, I copied and pasted them from the example map to my own map. The problem is when using active maps the symbols I pasted do not soften and change with the rest of the map.
3. Finally, I can not get contour lines to display behind the symbols I copy and pasted. I tried using "send to back" for the contours but it doesn't change anything.
Again, thanks for any help.

2. This is because of Sheet effects. Most probably, you don't have the appropriate effects configured for the sheet the symbols end up on. Note that there won't be any difference if you insert them from a symbol catalog, or you copy them from another map, except for perhaps the sheet they end up on.
Also note that you can open a map as a symbol catalog, and use it as one. So, if you have an example map with the symbols you want, you can actually open up this in the symbol catalog window, and the symbols are accessible.
3. Again, this is because of sheets. "Send to Back" only sends to back on the current sheet, so it only works if both entities are on the same sheet. You should identify which sheet the symbols are on (Use the LIST command), which sheet they should be on, and then use change properties on the symbols to move them to the correct sheet
Happy to be able to help you on your way
