Converting DWG-files

I am preparing an exhibition for a German state museum. I want to draw the floorplan sketches (where to put what) in CC3, since I have dwg-files (seems to be AutoCAD) available. My only problem is the black canvas I get after converting the file to fcw-format. Any ideas how to change it into a normal white canvas?

Change the background color to white using Edit>Change background color.

That does not seem to work. First I got an error message "background layer not defined", and not - after adding a background layer - nothing happens. The command line tells me to select a new background color, but only the varicolors in the symbol catalog window change after selecting.

What about View->View-Window Color ?

Seems this has changed since CC2 (the last time I converted a DWG file.) Joachim is correct.

That worked, but for some strange reasons I had to set my selection method back to default afterwards.
