Fill & Symbol Scale Guidelines

This is definitely a newbie subject and I thank anyone in advance who is patient enough to answer. I know that, in the CC3+ manual, pg. 28, and TUM, pg. 26, for scaling symbols the guidance is "When creating a map, there is a rule of thumb that says the symbol scale should be the map width divided by 1000"/ "The general guideline for symbol scale is map width divided by 1000." There does not appear to be equivalent guidance on fill scale, and the general nature of the guidance prompts me to ask:

Are there resources available describing or lists what scales work best/worst, or is scaling what I think it is: a matter of taste (and map purpose)? I'm happy to work with the latter, but always appreciate insight when it's available.

Generally speaking, the best fill scales are already set in the template and should be correct for most maps. However, if you want to play with the scales feel free to do so.

There's only one catch to altering the scales. If you make a bitmap cover much larger areas than it wasn't intended to cover, you may get pixelation - where you can see a grid like pattern in the texture corresponding with the pixels.
