Birdseye Continental Ocean Contour Question

I noticed that the settings for ocean abyss and ocean contour are exactly the same. This explains why things look the same regardless of which one I use. Is this correct? If not, then what should the tools be set to?

They go on different sheets. You can see this fastest if you select them in turn, but you can also see it when you go to the advanced dialog when you open the Default Sea tools and look at the properties for each drawing tool.

The intended use is to draw all the deeper water first using the "Sea, Default Ocean Contour" tool, and then the deepest water within that extent using the "Sea, Default Ocean Abyss" tool.

  • I thought about that. My eyes just can't tell a difference even when I did it like you suggest. I will double check to make sure they are going on the correct sheets. If not, then maybe I will just tweak something until I can see a difference.

On my copy of the example map the Blur on those sheets is 200 map units. Check what the Blur is doing on your own map. It might be wider than the patch of abyss you are drawing, in which case you may need to reduce it quite drastically.

The intention with the blurs is to make the transition between shore and ocean abyss gradual rather than stripy.
