Calculating the area of multiple polygons?

I finally figured out that to calculate the area of a single polygon, you don't have to click each point of the polygon, just hit <enter> and select the polygon.

But what if I want to calculate the combined area of multiple polygons, and there are too many to do that individually, one by one? Use case: creating a massive cave system using a Color Key cutout through the cave walls, but then wanting to calculate the floor space by calculating the area of the magenta polygons that cut through the cave walls. Is there a secret command that lets you calculate the area of multiple polygons simultaneously?

Thank you!

Not as far as I know.

But maybe you can work around it. One way I can think of is to combine all the individual polys into one massive one using the CONTOURSM command. This will create a single polygon that matches the complete outline of the existing ones, and you now have a single poly to use the area command on.

  • Thank you, that was the workaround I was going to use if there wasn’t a group solution. I discovered that command just today going through the Tome trying to research this. There’s still so much in there that is new to me.
