New Style (Banki)
Hi all,
I have not posted in awhile, but I have been lurking.
I have been learning a new art program and finally, while watching the old Hobbit cartoon, I clicked with some of the brush tools.
I thought I just share what I have so far. I have a lot more to do.
I want birch trees, maple trees, and have not even started on buildings.
I am creating it for story I am working on.
Human like animals where assigned to be the Keepers of Athvos by the gods (Important humans) After a catastrophe caused them and the giants (regular humans) to flee into the sky.
As usual kind comments and constructive criticism are welcome.

Looking good so far.
What software are you using?
Krita.
Ah, a good choice. I used that one to do the Ferraris Style a few years ago. I've moved onto other apps these days, but I still use Krita from time to time to touch up seamless tiles that didn't quite go the way I wanted them to in other apps.
I love it. Love the variety of trees. If this ever gets developed for a future Annual 🤞, I would love to see snow-covered trees and autumnal or vericolored trees. Looking forward to seeing how you approach buildings.
Yes, it's looking good!
The tree forms remind me rather of the rainforest ones in CA140 Dark Fantasy, except yours are a lot more realistic, and come in a greater variety (I've been mapping using the CA140 style lately, which probably explains this seeming similarity!).
Some of the mountains are maybe a little too vertical, although that could be adjusted by applying separate X and Y scalings for the symbols of course.
Less sure about the orange sea though 😉!
Don't be afraid to overlap. Campaign Cartographer will sort them out on a refresh.
A nice beginner tip. Hold CTRL and move the mouse up and down, this will scale for you. Get into the habbit of doing this, for it will really make the symbols appear different, when you have lots of them overlapping.
You can also right click, select mirror. Then the symbol will be the mirror image. All of a sudden one tree looks like ten different trees.
Well this is 17 instances of the exact same tree, mirrored and scaled up and down.
Do this with 3 other tree symbols and all of a sudden it turns into a right proper forest. A bit more time consuming, but the results will leave you pleased.
Welcome and happy mapping.
Mwahaha I didn't even notice that. Iron Oxide rich planet! Awesome. Hahaha wrong quote.
Hahaha right quote.
Love to see more trees from different climates and regions - tropical rainforest trees (not just palms), mangroves, Aussie trees (especially eucalyptus - red and white trunks included, and acacia) and odd trees like banyan and the funny ones in Madagascar. And varicolour of both trunks and foliage separately! I know, an impossible wish list, but Ihad to ask.
And what you have done with the trees is great.
Thank you for the ideas. Nothing is impossible with time.
Thanks for the comments.
I love trees so more the better.
Love the white bark Gum tree. We also get ones with very RED trunks, which is why I was wondering if you could make the foliage and trunks varicolor separately. Also would allow for alien type trees as well. eg purple trunks, bright blue leaves!)
