When you're lost, you need a map.
Howdy all! I'd been eyeing CC+ etc. for a while (from a safe distance... map porn, ya know) and along comes the HumbleBundle, and.... okay, I can take a hint. Here I am.
I don't do the gaming thing, but I write science fiction, and my worlds have become... complex. I need to map them out -- galaxy, globes, and local. So that's my focus.
I used to draw original maps by hand, and have collected paper maps and atlases (my pride and joy is a 1926 Times of London World Atlas), but I'm starting entirely from zero with this type of software, so may break it in ways the devs have never seen before (this is my special talent, you have been warned). And will have lots of silly questions.
In fact, I already broke the emojis... <checks> "This site can’t be reached. Check if there is a typo in twemoji.maxcdn.com." <checks more> Server is down. See? I broke it.
Anyway, that's all until I get this tangle installed and running... Oh, I must tell you how happy I am that it runs on Old Windows. I still use XP64 as my daily driver, because it lets me set workspace colors so it doesn't make my eyes bleed.
Now, how do I get out of this forest??

Welcome! I've used it for fiction books, both to include in the print and for my own organization. It's very useful. I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable about the servers and installation will help. Have fun!
Hi back!
Oh, I meant the forum emojis. Not showing up because the remote server is having a conniption.
Yep, that's what I have in mind... so I don't get lost in there, and eventually for the book thing, or maybe a wiki (I have that much material).
Excellent for you. I think you'll probably get lots of use from Cosmographer. I myself have never used it, but there are some really proficient people here with it. I think they mainly use that function of Campaign Cartographer 3+.
You will find tons of amzing help here on the forums and in the video wall section. So many ways to learn. Trial and error, The PDF's, and the video's.
Yep, I've been wandering around, looking at galleries and just generally gawking. Lots and lots of stuff. Should be fun. But first, I need to finish downloading the mess-o-files (we're very slow here) and figure out where I'm installing 'em.
Fractal Terrains is great for rolling up a quick world, and they have a Traveller type format as well
I don't know Traveller at all, but yeah, FT looks like my best starting point. It can work on globes, right? and I see something about exporting part to a CC map -- seems useful for local detail.
I have some worlds where I know a lot of detail already, and others where its guess is as good as mine. :D
