Staff seems to be getting on in the years, what's the future of this software? I'm hoping (F)OSS.

Any heirs to this ancient software beast? Cause the GUI and CAD system behind it is so crusty, I dunno how future proof it really is even if you have one.

(I mean, in quite a few YT videos, long term users who offer tutorials still get things wrong...preetty bad UX...)

And since you're already dumping stuff on humble and co...

Why not embrace open source (if you have the rights to do it) and make your money off of artworks?

Quake and Doom got open sourced eons ago and Id was never really ailing for money despite it, in fact, people still make content for it to this day.

I'm already a customer btw, in fact, I gave away some duplicate license keys...so I don't really have any monetary gain here..since I'm not suggesting to make the art 'open source' only the program, so people can fix it and make it better...bring it into the future.

Settle some of that technical debt that must invariably have accrued over time, making it harder and harder for just the core team to update.

Cause...yeah...I ain't seeing many young'uns ...only greybeards and co.

Edit:

Oh, and there's always the option to charge for the prebuilt binaries, too. Works splendedly for Krita, for example.

In fact, you might even make more money that way. Potentially, maybe.

More updates by virtue of more eyes and minds on the project, meaning things like nightly builds for a few quid per pop... might be good...you know?
