Top down campfire?

I asked the other day in another topic, but it must have passed everyone's notice.

Just want to find a half decent campfire for a small local campsite. I went through tons of annuals and saw nothing.

  • I’m sorry, I did see it but for some reason I thought it had been answered. I believe there’s one in Mike Schley’s SS4, maybe the woodcutter monthly expansion? And maybe SS2? I looked recently for one in DD3 and couldn’t find one. And I also recently made one by putting small stones in a circle, adding the scorched earth fill from Daeklands City, and then the burnt wood and bonfire symbols also from Darklanda City. I’m on my iPad now but I will check again in the morning when I’m back at my computer.

  • Oh, the Mike Schley one might be from the Forlorn Cottage expansion that Sue did for it. I’ll check in the morning.

Mike did the Forlorn Cottage expansion, and there is a camp fire in it.

    There's also a camp fire in DD3.

Use the open folder button (top right of the catalogue pane) and browse to the Symbols\Dungeon folder. Search for "fire*VH" in the browser. There will be a lot of other stuff, but you'll find any camp fires you have. Right click the one you want and pick "Open file location", then up one level to get to the catalogue file (.FSC), which should have the same name as the folder the symbol was in.

  • All this time, I thought you did the Forlorn Trails add-on, Sue.

Just searched for campfire. I believe the DD3 one comes from the CA49 (2011) add-on, under the Alchemy Objects group. SS2 Bitmap B has one but it's pretty cartoonish. SS2 Bitmap A also has one, I think.

Dundjinni Archives has a bunch of free ones but they don't always mesh well with other styles.

I created Forest Trail and Winter Trail, but not Forlorn Cottage. I've always avoided creating anything in a style that is too much 'like' someone else's style - especialy if they are living artists like Mike. The only time I've deliberately copied a style was the Ferraris Style, which was directly based on the Ferraris Map. That one is a couple of hundred years old, so the cartographers and artists who worked on it are definietly dead by now.

  • Thanks you two for helping me out. I will play around with them later. Appreciate the efforts.

  • If I want something more realistic, I would definitely go for Forest or Winter Trail (or both), something more "cartoon" certainly Mike Schley who has even more icons for variations.

  • Yeah, I agree. The last map where I needed a campfire was designed in Marine Dungeons. I found that in order to keep with the style of Marine Dungeons, it was easier to make my own campfire using the dry rocks from Marine Dungeons and the fire, scorched earth, and burnt wood from Darklands City -- both designed by Sue in complimentary styles. I have a tendency to mix and match from styles that don't always work well together, so sometimes I have to make an effort to rein myself in. Having the scorched earth fill available was handy, but another option would be to use a dark gray earth and then use sheet effects to darken it (or if a gray earth isn't available, use the RGB Matrix set to grayscale on a brown earth fill, and then darken it).

That was creative of you :)
