Changing properties on a sheet that has cut through bits

I’m having problems with changing colours on a sheet with islands that have been cut through the water sheet. I select the places where I want to change the colour to a slightly darker one and the islands appear as the magenta blobs, I then change the fill, but the islands have disappeared. I’d rather not have to redraw the islands if there is another way of doing it.
I’m using Birdseye Continental, by the way, not that that should make any difference.

Because those bits have been cut out on the water sheet they no longer exist to have properties changed on that sheet. If you want to change what you see through that hole you will need to modify the terrain you can see on the sheets that are revealed by those holes, and not the holes themselves.
What changes to you need to make to the islands?
I’m not changing properties of the islands, Sue, just the shade of water because i don’t like the bright "Part Sea, Part Ocean” next to the completed land colouring. I thought I would, but its not working for me now.
I think I might be misunderstanding what the problem is. What I said before is true, but may not be solving the right problem for you.
Can you give me a screen shot?
it is going to be a sequence of screenshots, Sue. I opted to go for “Water Ocean” rather than “Water Fresh"
A is before I have done anything apart from hiding all other sheets.
B is when I have selected all on the WATER (ALL) sheet with the islands and tiny lakes visible
C is just after I have changed the colour but not refreshed drawing area. you can just see some of the outlines of some of the islands
D is after refreshing the display
So the islands are vanishing?
When you change the properties of the water you are also changing the properties of the magenta cut-outs. They need to remain unchanged.
Try starting from the state of your first screen shot and change the ocean again without picking the islands, or carefully deselecting them so they remain unchanged.
Or, if you have already changed everything to the other water fill, try picking the islands only and changing them back to magenta polygons using Change Properties.
I selected the islands and MPEDIT-ed them to another sheet [where I’d transferred all the rivers and inland lakes], went back to original sheet (not noticing the lack of magenta) to change the fill to Ocean and two-thirds of the main fjord vanished! 😥 Thankfully I’d saved the file with a descriptive name so have two copies of the current working file. I’d had to draw the fjords in pieces because I wouldn't have been able to do what for me is such a length of precision work in one hit and that’s why the middle of the water vanished.
Please can you share the earlier FCW? Maybe I can help separate the islands from the sea for you.
OK
Thank you :)
Is this what you wanted to do?
I selected by fill style and changed one water fill for the other one.
If you want to change the colour of the water in a more general sense, you could add an Adjust Hue/Saturation sheet effect on the WATER(All) sheet either just below the Color Key, or at the bottom of the list.
thanks Sue. will look properly tmw
