[WIP] - An audience with the King

I love, love, love Mike Schley's new throne symbols! Had to design a little throne room to show them off.
Most of my time was spent on the grand staircase on the western side. There were several possible approaches to getting it to flare out, and also have a carpet runner. Not sure if the approach I took (with heavy use of the Color Key cutout effect) was the best, but it works.
When the King is receiving petitioners, the room is mostly empty of furniture, as courtiers and petitioners are expected to stand. The king is flanked by two smaller thrones for his Queen and Heir Apparent. The Lord Chamberlain and Minister of Protocol are seated on the northern side of the dais, with the Lord Chancellor on the south side near a desk for the Royal Scribe to transcribe proceedings and draft writs and edicts as needed.
Another throne on a small dais is on the south side. This is called the Sedd Peryglus or Siege Perilous. In Arthurian legends, the Siege Perilous was a seat at King Arthur's Round Table that was left vacant for the knight destined to recover the Holy Grail. Here, it is enchanted with a permanent Zone of Truth spell that prevents anyone seated on it from knowingly lying. It is rarely used, for to be asked to sit there is tantamount to being declared a dishonorable oath breaker: swearing an oath to tell the truth should be sufficient for anyone of honor.
In the evening, tables will be brought in for a great feast. But alas! A great calamity is about to befell the kingdom.
A few quick sequel maps to come...

Love it!
Have you tried using Mike Schley's "Rich" rug and changing its X and Y proportions to make it more longitudinal?

I've done that with other maps. With this one, I was hoping to get the monarch's crest on the carpet (though I also ended up having it engraved on the floor, so maybe it's superfluous on the carpet). I added a texturize effect and displace effect to try to make the blue polygon look like fabric. Not sure it succeeded, especially when not zoomed in.
It's a relatively small surface to really notice the textured effect. Maybe if you print the map in a large size, it will be noticeable.

Speaking of engraving on the floor: I used the same brown stonework used for the walls, but what I really wanted was gold or brass. The brass inlay fill from Marine Dungeons is my favorite of all time, but isn't really compatible with Mike Schley's style. I poked around looking for other metal fills, and the best I could find was from the Annual Ship Deckplans -- they had three shades each of gold, copper, and iron. Here's that inlay in the original stone as well as in gold and copper.
Love the staircase.
One really minor thing I noticed.
Either the upper throne chair is to close, or the lower one is to far from the main throne. Like 1/4 of a grid.

Good point. Since the crest is engraved on the floor, I don't really need it on the carpet. Here's your suggestion with the rug twice as long.
(This was hanging out in my drafts! I thought I had already posted it.)

I'll tweak it. Wasn't sure if I should aim for precision, or intentionally leave it imperfect. Sounds like it's more of a distraction.
You're just throne this out there, aren't you? 😉
Made some tweaks (including expanding the entry landing), and then created the feast.
Working on the third map now...
Yea that looks really cool now.
I forgot that I wanted to have the feast happen at night. Just used the Solid 60 transparency rather than fussing with lighting effects. Went back and forth on whether the reflection from the stained glass windows should be above or below the trees. I guess it depends on how high the room is. Maybe it's on the second floor?
Oh no! Calamity! In the immortal words of Nancy Sinatra:
You keep playin' where you shouldn't be playin'
And you keep thinking that you'll never get burnt, ha!
Looks like someone's been messin' where the shouldn't have been a messin'.
And it gave me an opportunity to use not only the evil and broken thrones, but also some of Mike's other symbols from this year that I haven't had a chance to use yet.
RUHROH!
raht do we do now, Raggie?
😁

PS: awesome maps RS, as usual
@Ralf I cannot access these symbols using the menu if I try to start a Dungeon Map using Mike Schely, from any of the menu buttons, including the all symbols one. I can only get them using the change symbol catalogue in the map itself, and navigating to Monthly 13. Can this be rectified please. And frankly it would be helpful if it were added to the Furniture alternatives when you click the Furniture button.
Does anyone else have this situation?
And it would help if the Monthly Symbols were renamed so we know what they are.
Hi Quenten,
I, too, do not have these in my buttons. Although the FSC files are important for connecting symbols, are they strictly necessary for other symbols? Instead of navigating to the Monthly 13 FSC file, I navigate to the "Monthlies" folder and within it are subfolders descriptively named for each of the new symbols:
I get what you're saying about the convenience of clicking on the Furniture button, for example, and having them either integrated with the rest or as a popup option (the way the Mines annual does). But in the meantime, this is what I do to get to the symbols I want without having to remember which month they were added.
The whole point of the menu buttons is for convenience, otherwise we would always be navigating to the files manually. SO there is a bit of 'Grrrr' reaction about this lack of a feature for the newer monthlies.
I'll take a closer look tomorrow, the catalog shortcuts should be there for the style.
Thanks, @Ralf

Generally, opening the folder of png files instead of the FSC is not that a good idea. All the settings for the symbols are in the symbol catalog file. The folder only contains the raw images. This means that the symbols won't automatically go to the right sheet, settings like collections and random transformations won't be used, smart features won't be available, and the origin point may be different than the symbol. Not all of this is equally important for every symbol, but generally, opening the folder should really only be considered for cases where there are no symbol catalog available.
Ahhhh, thank you! I knew it affected connecting symbols but didn’t realize all the rest. Thank you!
