Does anyone know if it would be possible to add an "online chat" or something like that to the forum that would indicate people who are online (if they wish) and they could chat through this channel, like when there are live broadcasts?
Or does this function exist and I've never known about it?
It sounds pretty modern :)

You can sort of see who's online at the moment by visiting their profile and seeing what time they were last active.
I think PMs are the equivalent of chatting on this software.
Its usually only a couple of minutes out of date.
Or how about setting up a discord server.
I tried Discord once with Cartographer's Guild, and I absolutely hated it.
It took me a bit to get used to it, but now it's so handy.
I don't have time to spend half the day on Discord every day. And I really hate having pressure put on me to use voice and video communication. Of course, people who aren't autistic like me tend to feel insulted because I won't speak to them, and then I just get walled out by a bunch of offended people. That's why I detest it.
When I wrote this post, I thought about the possibility of adding an online chat here on the forum for those who want to be online and visible. It would also be fair to have the option of remaining invisible like in the old MSN, or with the chat turned off.
Just to eventually facilitate communication here in the chat and not depend only on posts.
Something more "interactive" and "modern" 🤣

Are there enough people on at the same time? Our European friends would not be available at the same time as Americans, as an example. If there are, say, 10 people online at once, then this makes sense. If there are few people on at the same time, then the chances of having a chat are reduced.
There is an unofficial Campaign Cartographer Discord, although it's fairly moribund. Discords are fine in their way, but the more active ones are impossible to keep up with, and I've found I have to restrict myself to being on just a small handful of those that have a strong interest for me. The time difference can be problematic there, certainly, but a bigger problem is the need for constant moderator oversight to keep out the bots, and ensure the Discord's rules are being followed. It's rare to find a more active Discord that doesn't have two or three moderators to ensure 24-hour coverage from what I've seen.
Occasionally, there will be times on the PF Forum when enough folks are around to make almost real-time "conversation", without jamming up a topic with the kind of unnecessary, brief, "Hi! How is everyone?" comments so common on Discord. Generally though, I suspect it'd be rare to find times when enough people are on the Forum for this to be practical. We're probably all too busy mapping!
To answer the original request, no, this forum doesn't have any built-in chat features or online indicators. It would take quite a bit of development effort to add something like that.
