Struggling to select an area to work on.....
Greetings all,
I created a world for my fantasy campaigns years ago, but as more information has been added to the map, it is taking longer and longer to do anything - obviously. I vaguely remember seeing something, about twenty years ago, on how to select an area of the map, export a copy to a new map, then place a link in the original between the two. This would obviously reduce the volume of data in the new map, speeding up the save and refresh rate.
I can't find anything on how to do that and when I try to select an area to copy and paste into a new map, I can't get every layer and sheet from the original. I've made a copy of the original, and tried experimenting, but I fail every time owing to one of the layers - the hex sheet particularly - not being helpful.
Can anyone advise me on how I do this, please?
Many thanks,
Kit

There is a blog article here:
Since you mention the hex grid, while it certainly is possible to transfer suing the same process, I recommend just dropping it and creating a new one. You'll normally want smaller hexes anyway for your detailed area map.
Here's also a video with Ralf explaining the process.
Thank you so much - I knew I had seen it somewhere - I just didn't know the right search terms to find it.
You're very kind,
Kit
In addition to Remy's advice: if you are having trouble with certain layers make sure they are not frozen, as this prevents copying of anything on the frozen layer. That may be why the grid isn't cooperating, since it is common practice to freeze the default grid layer. Frozen layers have an 'F' beside them in the list.
