Question about Custom Symbols

I have a question about sharing custom symbols. Let's say I made a symbol entirely within CC3+, like the railway sleepers that Remy @Monsen did in the Silver Mines tutorial.

  1. Would that symbol be shared with the FCW file, since it was built in that file?
  2. If the answer to #1 is yes, would that mean that the FCW is eligible for consideration for inclusion in the Community Atlas?

Thank you!

    1. If it is a vector symbol, referencing no external image file, then yes, it will be contained entirely within the .fcw file. If it uses any kind of images, either an image for the symbol itself, or a raster fill, then it will be dependent on that image.
    2. For a pure vector symbol, yes, no problem at all. Additionally, if it do reference fill styles, but those fill styles are official CC3+ fills (including addons), then yes as well. Problem is only if you have brought in your own custom image to use for the fill.

  • This is an embed external element. It can be deleted using the delete key or the backspace key. To view the full element, press the preview button below.

That’s what I hoped to hear! These are custom staircase steps made with polygons and CC3+ fills. Thank you!

  • Just remember that not everyone has loaded all the add-ons and annuals you have so importing an external symbol using a raster fill to a new map that has a different list of bitmap fills can look rather strange. If you are creating a custom symbol for a specific map and don't plan to export it there shouldn't be an issue.
