Hey all,
Well, working on a large map: 4000 x 1600 feet of Nargothrond. It's an Elvish Kingdom carved into a rock hill. Hoping for advice on every aspect.
1: this is the uppermost level of the city.
2: I want to run streams thru it at various points
3: need a key somewhere
4: I'm thinking not to show in furniture or other items
5: need to add pillars and columns
etc.
Really would appreciate any and all advice.
thanks
Cal

Maybe the key should be to one side or below the whole map, since there isn't a lot of room in the map, though it's really too early to be thinking of the key. It's more of a labelling process at the end of the drawing.
I can't see what style you are using because it's so huge the textures are too small to identify, but the answers to some of the other questions could depend very much on the style and the arrangement of the sheets.
The style is creepy crypts because I like the fills heh.
The text is just placeholder so I know where to put areas.
I'll take any advice you like heh.
thanks
Cal
If all that cobble fill is above the floors, then it should be easy enough to draw the rivers on the WATER sheet. Maybe that should be your next move?
Okie dokie, will do.
thank you, Sue

Here's a question:
Should I change the cobbled 'hill stone background' to something else?
ashtonashcraft: ???
thanks
Cal
What fills you use are entirely up to you. Whatever you think looks good.
Ok, this is what I have so far...
As usual, I have to think about the text labels. My old typographer instructor....I can hear his voice in my head as I type: You can do better, Geoff heheheheh.
Cal
Maybe, but I think you are placing too much importance on the labels just yet. If you get them perfect for this early version of the map you may have to change them yet again once the map is finished. I recommend just hiding them for now and doing the map first.
Unless there's no more detail to be added to this map?
Thanks, Ms. Sue
They are not 'right'. I'll agree and put that off for a bit...
Cal
Sue,
I have to tell you this much: if it weren't for your work on this program, I'd have given it up long before now. That is not to say I don't appreciate the work Ralf, Remy and Mr. J and many others have done. I really appreciate all their artistry. But you have opened up so much more versatility in CC3+. I cannot thank you enough.
Cal aka Geoff
Thank you, Geoff.
CC3 works fine without my stuff, but thank you anyway :)
You are quite welcome.
PS: hope I didn't sound like I was relegating anyone else's work on CC3+ because I certainly would never. I love this program very much and appreciate all the hardwork, coding and art and otherwise, very much. I will never give it up! 😁
Well, have this so far:
It's not meant to be detailed or even 'realistic', but just a layout so I know where players and areas are.
Cal
Hey all, thanks for the votes:
Here are some decisions I made. The first was when one of my players asked, simply: wait aren't these Noldor Elves? Are you sure they wouldn't have straight, perfecly made tunnels, corridors and the like?
A: No: Finrod was not of the House of Feanor and was a true artist. He would be much more aesthetically pleasing.
How many levels are there to this city?
A: seven
Are you going to map them all?
A: No; unless they are needed.
You're OCD, are you sure about that?
A: Believe you me: yes, I am certain I will not map out seven levels
But it would be cool to see all those maps...
A: Do it yourself
Geoff
Finrod was not of the House of Feanor, but he was still Noldor - just saying.
😁
Yes, my lord, he is....heh
