Vista trouble after 4 months of perfect run

I downloaded CC3, DD3 and CD3 about 4 months ago and all worked fine. I've been using it several times a week since then, no bugs. Last week, every time I'd go to open a new map it would crash and I'd get a fcw32.exe error. I came here and read many people's advice: I completely uninstalled using an uninstaller program to make sure everything was out and reinstalled, didn't help, did it again, just in case, no help. I saw there was a new patch 3.4, downloaded that which was supposed to take care of "all vista" problems, to no avail. I tried downloading CC3 into another location as directed in vista help instructions, didn't help...anyone have any advice? I emailed tech support 3 days ago and no one has responded. I appreciate your help!

  • I had a similar problem, Win7 here
Instead of opening CC3 from the shortcut, open an example map, or a previously saved one

In my case I managed to open CC3, and later, the problem did not occur again.
  • Do you mean when you opened a previously saved one and THEN opened a new one the problem stopped for you?

I tried this and it worked once, which is better than it never working but upon second attempt it crashed again. Thanks for the suggestion though. I tried to get into administrative functions and reinstal but for some reason, even after going through correct procedure to start an admin profile, it won't recognize the password I JUST entered (and i've tried it three times) so I might just have a bug. I've tried all sorts of debugging programs and to no avail. I might need to take it to a pro, have it cleaned out and then give this a try. I wonder why no one from tech every emailed?

If you still haven't received any reply from ProFantasy tech support, make sure their email isn't blocked by a spam filter or something. They are usually very quick to respond, so failure for the email to arrive is the most common cause.
If you are sure it isn't being blocked, try emailing them on their alternate address linked near the top at this page. Make sure that the reply can reach the email address you send from.
  • Strange....I checked my spam folder and no email and that is actually the form I used. I have had a few other odd things occur on my computer this week so it's getting looked at right now. Once I get it back and I'm 100% certain it's clean, I'll reinstal CC3, go through all the steps, etc. It does seem really odd that it would work bug free for months and then all of a sudden not. Thanks for the responses!
  • OK...now I'm really frustrated. My computer is clean and free of viruses, I've downloaded the latest patch, completely uninstalled and reenstalled several times, tried placing the Pro Fantasy folder in a different location as directed for Vista owners...does anyone have any other ideas? Tech help never got back to me after I emailed them Monday. I've checked spam folder. Thanks for any experiences or ideas you have to share i'm at my wits end here.

Well...I thought I had the problem fixed FINALLY but no...CC needs to look at their program with vista yet again. i've downloaded and installed from admin, didn't place it in default (but C:CC3) with newest patch, still same problem when I go to start a new document CRASH CRASH CRASH. I've followed ALL the instuctions and recommendations for getting this to work with Vista and emailed tech. NOTHING. I'm fed up with this damn program. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm all out of them.

I had to install CC3 like this: c:\profantasy\CC3 as Microsoft made many errors when it wrote Vista. I find that many programs simply wont work if installed in C:\program files\

This is the path I have it in: C:\CC3 As long as i'm not using the default folders but putting it directly in C in it's own file it should be fine right?

That should be fine... but I think the add-ons, etc. look for Profantasy as part of the directory structure, but I could be wrong.

Hmm... Maybe its a registry entry instead ?

    Ralf would know.
