Hotspot not working
I am having a problem with hotspots to open documents, for example in Annual 204 release - Wilderness tiles. The Hotspot "Open PDF Mapping Guide" does not work for me. I have checked and the data directory is correct (by typing command OPENDOC @), and it has the right path and the document does exist. It seems to try to open the PDF but fails (without an obvious error message). Any suggestions? The macro attached to the hotspot is "OPENDOC @Annual\Issue 204 - Wilderness Tiles\CA204 Mapping Guide - Wilderness Tiles.pdf"

Does it work if you close all your pdf readers first and try again?
I've noticed from my own experience that the opening a pdf from within CC3 can take several seconds sometimes.
Thanks Loopysue for the suggestion. I've rebooted, and even reinstalled, but the hotspot does not seem to be activated when I click in the area (which is how I assume it's supposed to work) even after 30 seconds or more.
I should add that this is true of recent Annual editions that I have installed and then tried to use the in-map link to the PDF.
Thanks for trying :)
How old is the installation? This is a problem that should have been fixed quite recently, but the fix isn't there if the installer predates the fix.
If your installers and your installation are relatively new, please can you contact Tech Support and let them know what's happening?
The version is 3.98, CAD 6.20 (04/29/22) so fairly new - does that mean I should contact tech support?
Not the software. Sorry - I wasn't clear. I meant the annual and add on installers that give you those example maps where the links aren't working for you.
It might also be a good idea to do a repair re-install of the latest CC3 update. But yes - if none of those things work please contact TS.
It was the latest Annual edition (204 - downloaded this morning) and the one from last month. I'll repair the CC3+ just to be sure.
Yes, it might be a continuation of that older problem. Ralf mended it recently when I couldn't get it to work myself, but maybe that particular fix only worked for a subset of users who have their systems set up just like mine. We won't know until yours is sorted out too.
OK, I have reinstalled the last update and reinstalled Annual 204 and there's no change.
I assume that all I have to do is click on the words that make the hotspot - that is the words in this picture - and the document should open. If that's how it should work I'll raise it with support. Thanks for your help.
When you hover over the "Open PDF Mapping Guide" words, do you get a "pointing-finger hand" symbol on your cursor instead of the usual arrow one? I ask, because you mentioned the hotspot does not seem to be active, and that you "assume" this is what you have to do, whereas the change to the pointing finger cursor icon ordinarily confirms it's where you need to click.
I think Adobe took over half a minute to open my mapping guide, but I find the Adobe Reader startup is often pretty slow from "cold" these days. (Too much unwanted and unrequested Windows clutter that keeps getting dumped on my system, I suspect...)
This is based on a download and installation done within the past twenty minutes, incidentally (so around 17:15 UTC on Dec 2).
My cursor stays as arrow - it does not switch to a hand.
That might indicate that you aren't hitting the actual hot spot, if there is one there.
I haven't downloaded this months issue yet, but I will do so now and check it out for you.
I just installed last month and this month. Both have open up fine when I click it.
Mine also appears to be working fine, and relatively fast.
@Scornado If you click "Show Hyperlinks" in the View menu, do you see this box and text appear around the link?
(you can hide it again using the Hide Hyperlinks in the same menu)
If there is nothing there for you please can you contact Technical Support? Maybe we all have a very slightly more recent version of the installer. Normally I would suggest redownloading the installer, but this one is quite a big download, so it might be easier to ask for just the example map from TS instead.
Check that you haven't disabled Hotspot under Tools -> Options -> Links and Hotspot are active.
Panic over - Monsen solved the problem (MANY thanks). I did not even know that there was that option. Sorry for wasting everyones time. Simon
I didn't know that was an option either, so we both learned something :)
Glad we got that sorted at least! I did know about the hotspot disabling, but wasn't online after you replied yesterday. Thankfully, we always have Monsen 😁!
