How to Kern

Greets, fellow Artists

I am sometimes annoyed with the 'kerning' or lack thereof in the fonts we have to use. Is there a vlog/blog on how kerning should be done in CC3+?

thanks

Do you have a screen shot of the fonts you mean and the bad kerning?

Some fonts don't behave well when placed as curved text.

I believe font kerning is controlled by Windows (even in CC3) based on information built into the font itself. If you are having issues with straight text problems can arise because the font is badly designed - as many of the free ones tend to be these days. In those cases the only solution is to explode the text and move the letters individually wherever it is particularly bad.

Proper kerning and ligatures aren't directly supported in CC3+ because they require analysis of adjacent characters in the text string and CC3+ only handles one character at a time.

You'll need to manually kern text by using multiple text entities. If you want ligatures, you will need a font where the ligatures are down in the ASCII character range because CC3+ doesn't support Unicode.

Ah well, thanks all. And, yeah, Sue....mostly windows fonts. They always need help heh.
