The Permian

This is a fantastical version of the Late Permian (circa 250 million years BC).

  • Is the placement of the mountain ranges based on ... err ...science? Or did you place them artistically?

  • The mountain range areas look about right compared to what's been established scientifically for the Late Permian; I'm less sure about the extent of the desert on the main continent (Pangaea) though. The area south of the main cross-continental mountains that's been suggested as arid is often shown as smaller than that north of the mountains - though there is quite a lot of variance between different models (it was a long time ago, after all!). Plus this is meant as a fantasy variant, I realise 😊
