FYI, the CA194 All file does not contain vegetation. It seems to have all of the other symbols, but not those. You need to load the vegetation separately.

For the scale bar being black text. I make a sheet i call text2 and add outer glow of white.

The default for the scale bar is miles not feet.

Oops, good point (same for km/meter in the metric version). Fixed now and I also included the map from the video last night in the setup.
