dancing torches problem

Lately I've been struggling with placement of the sconce & torch symbol on my cave walls.

The torch symbol dances around when I attempt to place it on the cave wall, and when I do click on my mouse it doesn't stick where I want but instead randomly displaces by 1 or 2 symbol widths.

Any ideas what's happening?

So you have snap to grid turned on?

You can also try right click and uncheck smart tracking when you have the symbol selected.

Ah I think that was it - also if the cave wall is irregular there's lots of wobbling.
