i've been finishing off the sw corner of middle-earth, which has led to more tweaking of the sheet effects for the map.
the latests tweaks have been applied the se map, which gives this result.
just for a interesting comparison, below is the original map; which was converted to the map style above.

Did you actually go through the conversion process from one style to the other, or did you simply remake the map in the new style?
a little of both i suppose.
i deleted the symbols and redid them. but the map fills, coasts , rivers, lakes where converted to the new style.
new terrains where drawn to give more variety to the land background.
i also slightly adjusted the area shown in the map. the missing land is still there, just hidden under the border/screen area.
and because i didn't entirely like the look of the styles effects, i started playing around with how they looked.
the title ribbon came from one of the annuals and the border came from another annual style
