How to create a custom template?

I'm sure there is already some tutorial on how to do this somewhere but I've been searching and I cannot find anything that helps.

I'm getting back into some map making after several years absence and I know I've done this before (because I have some already) but I cannot find how to create new templates complete with custom drawing tools and custom set of symbols all in one. I've already got the symbol set I want to use, just no idea how to do the rest.

Thanks to these amazing tutorials (thanks again Ralf and Monsen!!) I've created my very first style template!

Its a take on the very old TSR Star Frontiers game map style recreating the main city map that came with the original Alpha Dawn box set, the city of Port Loren.

Attached is the map I created of a space port to go with the original Port Loren map.

Its pretty simple and the only thing I couldn't figure out is how to get the Preview for the road tools to show correctly. They draw as intended but don't show their previews right.
