Can I delete part of a symbol like a glow effect?

Noob question, I know, and I did try to find something on this in the forums but couldn't find a satisfactory answer...
In dungeon designer I have a glow that extends past a wall. I want to get rid of the glow outside the dungeon area. Can I trim or otherwise delete that part of the glow?
Struggling! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Effects cannot be trimmed. You'll need to cover it up with something.
Personally, to prevent things from extending through a wall and into the "nothingness" behind, I like to use a mask that is made up from the background with holes punched in it for the dungeon (using a multipoly for that) and put that on top so it basically covers up everything outside the walls, including unnatural shadows.
Thanks for the reply! So it's not an effect, I don't think, but a symbol from a catalogue. Can symbols be broken into parts, and then deleted in part?
Edit: Also, I'll check out the mask action, that may be the way to go. Cheers!
It depend a little on the symbol itself, but in most cases no.
If it is a vector symbol, it is fully editable, but most modern symbols trade the far better visuals of raster artwork for the convenience of editing with vector.
A few raster symbol may be built from more than one part, but this is rare.
In most cases, using a mask is the way to hide bits sticking out.
(Not that for raster symbols, it is possible to make a copy of the underlying image file, edit that one in an image editor, and import your modified version into the map as a new symbol, but I generally don't recommend that, because it makes it more tricky to use the map on a different computer or after a re-installation unless you remembered to backup and copy back your modified image file.)
