Festive Winter Card Challenge WIP: Frosty Village

Well, this new challenge sounds like fun, so I'm in.
Challenge announcement thread.
I have to confess that I was already working on something to make a Christmas card for my family, but no map as yet, just a couple of textures.
Here is an idea for anyone else who wants to join in: you can use almost any texture for snow by turning it some shade of white using the new Colorize sheet effect ;)
I've made some snow, and a bit of ice, but that's about as far as I've got.

Not much further, but there's some work to make the various shades of white look ok with each other.
I found the snowy trees blender file from Spectrum overland!
(I thought I'd lost it and would have to start again)
Hey. That's not fair: it actually looks like a tree.
More trees.
I think I should pay a bit of attention to what I want to do with this map now. A maze... a warren of paths through the woodland to the village? Not sure yet.
I had a bit of trouble with the text, when after concentrating on the look of the font, exploding it so I could fill it, and then getting the arrangement just right, I realised I'd missed out the T in Christmas! LOL!
But I did it again, and it looks much better now :)
Different style, Hans. I can't draw trees the way you draw them to save my life!
See, here's the thing I know: it's difficult to play music "wrong" once you know how to play proper. So..what I am definately reading into this is...well...you be the trained visual artist! 😂
I can paint, draw, and even sculpt reasonable looking trees out of wire and modelling clay, but I'm still crap at watercolour.
You, on the other hand, are great at it - even when there are no actual watercolours in sight :)
As long as I do not exceed the 10k hours mark, I should be fine.
Oh wow guys!
Has anyone else checked out the new ambient lighting setup? You can set the ambient light (in this case dark blue) when you pick the colour of the shadows in the finalize effect.
Ok. I've had a rethink and gone for much larger scale.
This isn't finished. It's just set up ready for details and possibly snowy rooftops.
Ok, I made some more snowy trees and messed around with the lights and the sheet effects. Now I think I need to make some people, or something. The centre feels a bit empty. Those are just scribbles I've placed at the moment.
Wow, Sue! This is going to be a glorious card. It makes me hear Hark the Herald Angels Sing and the First Noel.
Beautiful!
Thank you! :)
I think you might just have given me an idea on how to fill the centre, but I won't spoil the surprise by telling it now.
Just to round off the end of this thread, this is the finished card.
Merry Christmas everyone! :D
Hey @Loopysue!
The card is great!
Could I ask you how you made the frame?
Thank you :)
I drew an interlocking zig zag pattern with 2 straight lines like a herringbone pattern, and then converted the lines from straight to smooth. I used the bronze inlay fill from Marine Dungeon to make it look metallic, like those fancy borders you sometimes get on Christmas Cards.
Thanks! The result is really nice!
You're welcome :)
