Fill Styles using incorrect bitmaps and not sizing correctly.

Background

Campaign Cartographer started crashing as soon as it loaded.

Windows did a fix and repair autoscan of my hard drive at boot.

CC3+ still crashing on start.

Decided to uninstall everything and start fresh.

CC3+ didn't want to go (InstallAware kept asking for my source file).

I used IOBit to finally uninstall the program. All the add-ons or annuals didn't seem to have this problem (InstallAware could uninstall them).

Thought maybe it was a memory issue. Memory scan was clean; however, I changed my Page Overflow Memory to dump every time I turned my computer off just in case.

Downloaded everything fresh.

Installed CC3+ and all add-ons. Opening them separately each time. Installed all the annuals. Then I installed the Update25 (which I don't think I needed and might be the problem?).

Now here's my problem:

Example: I am city mapping in Jon Roberts or Mike Schley, but when I open Roads, the fills are all wrong, I have all mud or all water or whatever. The same happens with terrains and so on. When I go in and attempt a manual correction by reassigning the properties of the fill styles, it either doesn't work or I am getting a hideously huge version on my map.

I do reassign and rename and save fill styles quite a bit but the ones that are broke are ones I have never touched.

I am sure this is my fault and not a software issue, but if I do get it fixed or have to do another install, I just want to make sure it doesn't happen again. Help! Please?

There seem to be a number of points here, but I am not a tech so I can't solve anything but the most simple. The updates are a necessary part of the installation and should be installed. This is because they add new functionality and repair any bugs that have been discovered since the last update.

I'm not going to start guessing about anything else, though it might help if you could say whether these maps with the wrong fills on the drawing tools were started in that style, or if you switched styles at any point.

I know that some Annuals depend on the newest update being installed.

  • Hi!

I switch styles all the time. Will that break what you have defined as something like Road, Light with the bitmap it is associated with?

Also, the reason I thought the update might be the problem is because I downloaded the latest CC3+ from the website which I think was already 3.94 and then installed the update25 which is also version 3.94. I wasn't sure if that would cause a problem.

A map only contains the fills for the style you created it from. When you select another style in the drawing tools, those tools try to reference fills not in the current map, which is why you get that problem.

  • Remy (and the rest of the community),

First, thank you and everyone in the community so much for your patience. I know that I sometimes ask for help when the answers are readily available and I feel bad about bothering folks when I should be able to find the answers on my own. Sometimes, I just get overwhelmed with everything a person can do in the program and the pressure of wanting to complete certain maps for an upcoming game or story(but that's no excuse). Last night I was on the verge of tears because I had spent hours downloading everything and reinstalling the program and it seemed so messed up. Exhausted, I came here for help.

Anyway, I have been using the import bitmaps for a while now, but I have tried your insert file option after reading your post and watching the video and so far it looks good. There are a couple of bitmaps missing from Jon Roberts City. I am not sure but I think that may have something to do with the update which made his map a standard part of CC3+ and the way I installed it.

I am so grateful for this kind and generous place to share and get assistance. It's a little ironic in a space committed to fantasy, it should be troll free, but then again, there are definitely heroes in this wonderful space!

    You're welcome.

And you should see my early maps, or maybe not look at them.
