Breaking the Wall

Morning everyone -
sometimes i am surprised in how many ways cc3+ puzzles me - which is not bad, it keeps my head fit.
this morning i just wanted to break through a wall - see marked area picture 1 - instead of building a passage cc3+ takes the complete wall and leaves the passage standing. what i need in this one is a reverse break. - i would like to understand why it does this and how i do it differently - think it's simple but somehow i can't figure it out.
Sidenote:I had already tried putting a Jon Roberts door in a Jon Roberts wall, but somehow the wall doesn't want it the way I want either

When you pick the wall for breaking it, make sure you pick the bit you don't want to lose - the bit outside the break.
