Hve you tried the tutorials in the Essentials guides ? They may not map what you want, but you get used to the interface which is not like a paint program.

As JimP says, it is good to look at the tutorials. I recommend having a look at the tutorials in the manual, they explain a lot of the basic stuff needed for understanding the program, no matter what type of map you're going to create later.

Hey Jim. I don't think I have yet. I've been working with Josh Plunketts tutorials.
Edit: I do intend to look through them.
Tutorials are good ways to learn the interface. I was having problems, then started the tutorials. Much better.

The video tutorials I most recommend are Joe Sweeney's, especially his newer ones made for CC3+. You can find them most easily on YouTube.
