30 minute call! :)
There were several rather long questions asked during the live stream that couldn't be answered right there. If you have one of those questions please don't hesitate to ask them either here or on the FB Group page.
Thanks
I would like to convert some CC3+ symbols to connecting symbols - the corners do not have to be perfect, as I can use other symbols to hide these. I am thinking specifically of the hedge and stone wall symbols of the latest issue.
A related question is - if I can do this, then use them in the Atlas map, will they show as red X's or not (Question for Remy I guess). And on that note, if I convert a symbol to a varicoloured one (which i know how to do), will it also show up as red x's in Atlas maps?
For the atlas questions, anything you do with the symbols is fine as long as you don't modify the image files on disk in any way. No editing of existing files, no renaming of files, and no copying of files to create new files and no adding files. As long as things can be done in CC3+ proper without messing with the image files on disk it is fine.
I made a very amateur video on how I would create a connecting symbol from one of the walls and will post it here for you, Quenten, when it's finished processing on YouTube. But now that I have read Remy's comments I don't know if they will be suitable for the Atlas, since I make use of cloned symbols to rename them with a chosen length.
@Monsen - will renaming the clone in the Symbol Manager make them unusable in the Atlas?

No, manipulating the symbols inside CC3+ isn't a problem. As long as you don't play with the image files on disk.
Thanks Remy :)
I guess you're "good to go" then, Quenten.
Great. So if I put my favourite bridges, fences, washing machines and COVID test kits in their own catalog without moving the images from where they are in the directory, that would be OK for the Atlas as well?
Yes, the important things is the images on disk, not the symbol themselves inside CC3+.
Hi, everyone.
I've been trying to create my own symbol collection and I've hit a snag with the walls. My connecting walls, created in Photoshop, imported as a png file and edited and saved as Sue does in the tutorial above, only work as straight walls. Otherwise, they keep appearing separated and badly overlapped, as you can see below. Any suggestions regarding the creation / saving / importing process?
UPDATED: okay, I've found this thread, and a lot starts making sense now. I'm guessing that, because I created just the one symbol and assume it would work as the one Sue uses in the video above, everything came out this way. I'll keep working on it to see what I can get.
Hi Daperdepa :)
If you put a length in the square brackets that is a tiny bit shorter than the symbol actually is on the map, those gaps should disappear.
I'm not clear what the other problem you are describing really is.
Aaaaand I was doing it the other way around, extend the image in Y to make it larger and connect the segments. I see the problem now. Thanks, Sue. I will create a couple of matching towers and a gate and post it all in my WIP Cahokia thread.
