Spectrum - the mesa poll

Hi everyone! 🙂

I decided to try for a flatter top and steeper sides on the mesas I showed on my main Spectrum thread earlier, but to have a poll to see which is best I had to start a new thread.

So here they are. The original is on the right, and the new modified one is on the left. Please have a vote and let me know which type you would prefer to have in the set. Thanks.

  1. Which of these versions of the same mesa model would you prefer to have in Spectrum part 2?21 votes
    1. The flat one on the left
    2. The more shapely but less mesa-shaped one on the right

  • But I like both. Okay, whichever wins.

  • There's no option for both!

I haven't voted but if you really forced me to pick, it would have to be the one on the right.

    But seriously.. both :)

  • Honestly, I want both lol

  • I too would like both but I voted for the one on the right, against popular opinion it would seem.

  • Left.

I do like the irregularity of the right one on the top where it appears to have a recess etc. But I assume some of the "left" ones would include such features.

  • Hah! 50% for each. Just going to have to do both I guess!

    Oh cool!

So if I do 3 of each you'd all be happy?

  • Yes, Yes, Yes, pretty please. I am like the others - I love both, but will vote for the left one if you decide to have only one (I hope not)

Even happier with 6 of each. But yea, 3 of each would be great.

  • I voted for the left one, but both are awesome.

    5 of each?

I'm going to try and make them open at the top so they will have whatever fill you put them on.

  • I honestly love them both, I voted left without reading the thread comments - so as not to be biased.

My reason for selecting the left one is that I thought that of the two that design stands out from mountains more.

But I'll be really happy if you produce several variations of each. 😀

Also I'm joining the chorus of requests for a "Symbol Set 6 - Sue's Spectrum Overland." Everything that you've made for this style is so beautiful.

    Thank you! :)

I've just done an open-topped variation of the flat one so people can have whatever they want on top, or just let the background show through.

  • I voted the one I liked a hair more but I would have loved an option for both!

Well, the vote has changed in balance over the last few hours, and I'm also having issues with doing transparent tops for the more curvatious version on the right because the moment you take the top off you lose the shading and they just look totally weird. So what I propose is this:

I do 5 mesas like the one on the left with transparent tops, and 5 like the one on the right with solid tops - just as they already are, in fact.

That way, you can have the curvatious ones with the natural top for general use, and there will also be 5 slightly more practical ones you can stick a city symbol on top of and have whatever texture you like underneath it showing through. So you could use them to represent tepui and have a rich grass texture and add one of the waterfalls I will make to go with the cliffs generally.

    How does that sound?

    Sounds good to me.

  • A fine compromise

  • Weird can be good, particularly for haunted areas... but I presumes you mean something else when you say weird.

Weird, as in not right at all - the resulting symbol doesn't look like anything but a mess.

  • BOTH!

These symbols look SO great at big scope view. Great job!

    Thanks, Medio :)
