Addling a line to a landmass

Hi
I just purchased CC3+ and I'm just going through the basics, and I've become deeply confused about something I feel should be simple: how do you add a line to a landmass?
I have a landmass of the shape I want, but I cannot add a line after the fact. When I click through change line style, nothing happens. If I click through change properties, the best I can do is create a hollow shape with no fill colour. If I I try to click through change line width, the image gets messy as the outline takes on the fill colour, and overlaps become hollow spaces.
I feel this should be easy to do, but I'm at a complete loss what I am doing wrong or how I should be thinking about the interface.
Could someone help a newbie who doesn't have a clue, but who has not thrown his laptop out a window yet?

The Mike Schley overland style has two entities that describe the land, whereas most other styles only have the one. If you don't know which style you are using please can you show us a shot of the map so we can get a better idea of what's happening?
Thanks
I think my problem is I got over-zealous, jumped into the advance functions, and removed the outline from the landmass. Ithen saved it as a different type, so as not to screw up the original landmass options. FWIW, I started with Land, Default from Overland CC3 Vector Color.
My apologies for being so clueless I cannot ask proper questions.
Have you solved the issue?
I'm currently trying to teach myself by recreating a map from Glorantha where I'm running a campaign. It's... slowgoing so far, but getting better.
